Navigating a New Normal

Lifestyle

By now, you’ve probably heard it a thousand times: we’re living in an uncharted reality. But we don’t need to tell you how weird and uncertain things are. What we can do, is help you navigate this new normal with a few financial tips and lifestyle wisdom. We’re behind you, so you can get back to a little bit more of the good in life.

Take a Free Online Course

If you are trying to make the most of your downtime, why not take a free financial literacy course? MoneySKILL offers a free online course to help you brush up on budgeting and financial management…

Get the Creative Juices Flowing

When it feels like you’ve watched every show ever made, how about getting creative with the kiddos with a few easy indoor craft projects and activities? Break out the crayons and markers and have them illustrate their very own story book. If they like music, ask them to write a song about their pet. If you have the space, a safe, silly obstacle course can help them burn some energy. You can even create a scavenger hunt list that will keep them occupied while you get some work or laundry done.

Cook Something New

It’s easy to get into the same food routine when you’re cooking day after day. If meal prep and “leftovers” aren’t your thing, do a little research to find a new favorite recipe. There are thousands of free tutorials on YouTube that make getting out of your culinary comfort zone a little easier, and so much fun.

Take a Break from the Noise

These days, it can be hard to escape the never-ending news cycle. Make a conscious effort to limit your news intake, including scrolling through social media. We’ve all been stuck in the vortex of fake news, real news, and very loud opinions of people we don’t even know. Give yourself a much-needed break by putting your phone down occasionally. If you’re up for it, give yourself a specific time each evening where your phone is “off limits.”

Go for a Walk

It’s amazing what a little fresh air and exercise can do for your mental and physical health. Take a stroll around the neighborhood or take your dog to a park you’ve never been to before. A change of scenery is always a mood-booster. Just make sure to maintain six feet of distance and wear a mask! If it’s not exactly “go for a walk” weather, there are tons of free exercise videos on YouTube, ranging from beginner yoga to high intensity interval training.

Find Your Zen

While taking care of your physical health is essential during this time, you can’t forget about your mental health, too. By just taking a few minutes each day to meditate or practice deep breathing exercises, you can lower your stress level and refresh your state-of-mind. Check out these meditation apps to help guide you.

Connect from Afar

Don’t forget to regularly check in with friends and family. Even though it may feel like an extra step to make time available, you’ll feel so much better after a good belly laugh session with the ones you love. Plus, you may never know who might need an extra friend right now. And even though you aren’t together physically, you can still play games or even watch a movie together over video chat.

In a time when days bleed into each other and sometimes it feels like a feat just getting out of bed, it’s important to incorporate some normalcy into your routine. Whether that’s going for a morning jog or getting crafty every afternoon, creating a new ritual for yourself will help you find some calm amid the uncertainty. And don’t forget, we’re always here to help. Whether it’s a loan, finance tips or just life advice, we’re here to help you get back to the good ahead.
